China and Japan women’s teams topped the pools in the wheelchair basketball competition at the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games taking place in Jakarta this week.
Both teams secured their place in the semi-finals with convincing wins, China defeated Iran, 94-18, and Cambodia, 116-14. Whilst Japan overcame Thailand, 88 -24, and Afghanistan, 103 -18.
Iran secured the second position in pool A with a commanding performance over Cambodia, 86-18. Second and third places of pool B came down to the game between Thailand and Afghanistan. The game was the closest of the women’s competition so far, and the game was tied, 43-43, with just three minutes remaining, but it was Thailand who claimed the second spot, with a 9 point unanswered run at the end of the game to win, 52-43.
China and Japan will now play in the semi-finals and will play the winners of the quarter-finals which are between Thailand versus Cambodia and Iran versus Afghanistan.
