Thailand and Iran women’s wheelchair basketball teams have progressed through to the semi-finals of the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games.
Thailand met Cambodia in the first crossover, with Anurak Sirinikorn and Wadsamon Budpo top-scoring for Thailand with 12 points apiece, as they secured a 60-24 win to progress through to the semi-final.
In the other crossover, Iran faced Afghanistan. It was Iran’s intense defense that put the pressure on Afghanistan as they struggled to find any shooting form, with Iran taking the game, 49-13.
Thailand will now meet China in one semi-final, whilst Iran face Japan in the other semi-final, both being played tomorrow (10th October 2018).
In the men’s competition, there were big wins for South Korea and Japan against Saudi Arabia and Chinese Taipei respectively, as both remain unbeaten in pool A.
Hosts Indonesia faced a tough challenge up against a fast and agile Chinese team. Despite the overwhelming support for Indonesia from the home crowd, China proved too strong for them as they bounced back from their defeat yesterday finishing victorious, 106-20.
Iran continued to demonstrate why they are one of the favourites for winning Gold at the games, and a triple-double from Mohammadhassan Sayari, (22 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists) assisted Iran to an 89-56 win over Thailand to maintain their winning run and top pool B.
