In the final of the Men’s 2018 South America Championships, Argentina stormed out to an early lead 9-20 as Brazil struggled to find their shooting touch in the first quarter.

Brazil tightened their defense in the second quarter and limited Argentina to only five points for the quarter but could only manage to match this themselves and after a low scoring second quarter 5-5, Argentina held an 11-point advantage going into the break, 14-25.

Brazil continued to fight back winning the third quarter (18-17) but it wasn’t enough to break Argentina’s hold of the game who finished the game as they started, winning the final quarter 8-23, to secure the victory 65-40 and claim their second consecutive gold at the Men’s 2018 South America Championships.

Argentina were led by captain Adolfo Berdun, who joint top-scored with Adrian Perez both hitting 19 points each. Marcos Silva led the scoring for Brazil with 14 points.

A bronze medal was not all that was at stake in the 3rd/4th Play Off, between Colombia and Uruguay, but also a place at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.

And it was Colombia, who won all four quarters, 23-14, 18-10, 25-9, 14-12, to take home the bronze medal with a  and ensure themselves a ticket to Lima next year.

Colombia’s captain, Jhon Hernandaz was top scorer for the game with 25 points, whilst three players for Uruguay hit double figures, Fernando Polti (14 points), Jorge Lapaz (10 points) and Daniel Martinez (10 points)
