The IWBF Americas’ 2021 South America Championship will begin Monday 29 November with the women’s competition.

Today (Sunday 28 November), Maureen Orchard, Secretary-General of IWBF Americas announced that due to problems with flights the Colombia women’s team has had to withdraw. The remaining four countries, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and host Argentina will play a round-robin schedule from 29 November – 1 December 2021, with semi-finals taking place Friday 3 December and the medal games on Saturday 4 December.

The teams are playing for one of the three spots to the Americas Cup. The Americas Cup which will be held in 2022 is the qualification tournament for the IWBF World Championship which takes place in November 2022 in the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The championship is being hosted by Federacion Argentina De Basquetbol Adaptado (FABA) President Omar Pochettino said:

“We are sorry for the players from Colombia, but we know we will have excellent competition between the four teams that are here.”
