In a full packed house the atmosphere was buzzing as the Brazilian men took to the court against Algerian in their second match of the tournament.
Brazil shot out to an early lead going 16 -4 up, led by Erik Da Silva scoring seven points however with 3 minutes remaining Algeria went on a 10 point run and brought the game back within 5 at the end of the first quarter.
Brazil took off the pressure in the second quarter allowing Algeria to drag the score back to within 13 points, 39 -26.
The roars from the crowd echoed around the arena in the third and fourth quarter. Spurring on the Brazilian men, who were clinical in their display and really put on show for the fans, with all members of the squad making an impact to take home a resounding, 82 – 43 win.
Brazilian Head Coach Tiago Jose Frank said, “This match was really important because yesterday we didn’t play how we expected, so it was a game for the team to recover from the loss.
“It’s great to have a home crowd behind us and it’s such a brilliant atmosphere. They are not used to it because in Brazil they don’t normally get such crowds, so it is really beautiful to see all the support.
“We expected Algeria to be harder and we had trained for that so it showed we had good preparation.
“We have Great Britain next and they are a really strong adversary, then the next game against Iran and Germany are really important for the classification for crossovers.”
