Basketball field with Wheelchair Basketball Players in the background

The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) is the world governing body dedicated to advancing and promoting wheelchair basketball worldwide. Founded in 1973 as a sub-section of the International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation (ISMGF), wheelchair basketball has steadily grown in prominence. Renamed the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation in 1989, it achieved full autonomy by 1993, becoming the sport's global governing body.

IWBF's membership has since expanded, leading to its division into four geographical zones: Asia Oceania, Africa, Americas, and Europe. Today, over 100,000 individuals worldwide participate in wheelchair basketball across various levels.

Established as a non-profit organization in Switzerland in 2018, IWBF's headquarters are located at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball, alongside FIBA, solidifying its place within the basketball family.

To this day, IWBF remains a volunteer-led organisation with  a handful of employed staff. Explore our structure, leadership, and the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to support and manage the federation's operations.
