Day 6 of the Rio 2016 wheelchair basketball event opened with the women’s 9th-10th play off between the two teams who finished fifth in their respective pools: Algeria and Argentina.
A tense opening quarter saw Argentina able to create and capitalise on more offensive opportunities to take a 14-10 lead. This pattern of play continued into the second quarter as Argentina settled further into the game, outshooting their opponents by 16-6 to enter half time up by 30-16.
The third quarter saw Algeria find the basket, but with 10 minutes remaining in the game it was still Argentina who held the advantage: 44-24. The fourth quarter saw both teams continue to battle hard and Algeria won the quarter for the first time at a Paralympics Games, but Argentina held firm to earn 9th place with a 53-38 triumph.
