USA kept up their winning ways on day five proving too strong for the young debutante team from Chile. USA used all their bench giving all players game time and experience, producing quarter stats of 23 – 5, 18 – 7, 18 – 2 and 19 – 4 on the way to a 78 – 18 win. Chile played hard to the end although not enough to challenge the USA, they have a bright future as they look to continue to develop their skill level and competition experience .
Top scoring for the USA were Brenton Regier and Fabian Romo each with 21 points whilst Jonathan Moreira with 8 points led the way for Chile.
In game two of day five it was the deciding game for the second spot at the U23 World Championships in June. Brazil showed they are second only to the USA at this tournament controlling Argentina from start to finish. Again thanks to their main scorers so far in the tournament Anderson da Silva (16 points) and Francisco de Souza (14 points) Brazil took a commanding 38 -13 lead into the half time break.
In the second half Argentina did not give and kept the game closer with quarter scores of 9 – 13 and 9 – 20, however could not contain the Brazilian shooters to be able to really challenge and Brazil ran out comfortable winners, 71 – 31.
Top scorers for Brazil for the game were Francisco de Souza (27 points) and Anderson da Silva (17 points). Ivan Gomez (10 points) and Matias Mendez (8 points) topped the score sheet for Argentina.
Action on day six will see Brazil play Chile and Argentina match up against USA. Although the results will not effect the final rankings it will be important for all the teams to end the tournament with a good performance.
