Turkey return to the U23 World Championship stage after hosting the 2013 tournament in Adana. We found out a little more about Turkey’s Ahmet Efetürk.

Name: Ahmet Efetürk

Age: 22

Hometown: Izmir

Classification: 4.0

Club: Izmır Buyuksehir Belediye Spor Kulubu

Ahmet feels proud of himself and his teammates to be able to represent their country at such a prestigious event.

He believes going to the U23 World Championships at a young age will be a good experience and may also provide opportunities to transfer to different clubs in other countries which would help develop him as a player and advance his career.

He explained how the team have been getting ready for the World Championships, “The team has been preparing for the tournament by organising friendly matches against the Turkish Super League teams and Turkey’s senior squad, whilst also studying their opponents as a team and the individual players.”

The Turkish team are coming into the World Championships with a big confidence boost as they are the current U22 European Champions, winning the title back in January and have high hopes. He said, “We fight to win the title.”

However, Ahmet thinks that Canada, Japan and Great Britain are all strong contenders to take home the world title.

He finished off by saying what he is most looking forward to at the Championships,  “Canada is a great country and the Canadians are very interested in this sport. Therefore, we are expecting high interest and turnout at the venues. I hope the Turkish community in Canada will come and support us.”
