South Korea and China took the last two spots in the semi-finals for the men’s wheelchair basketball competition at the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games.
Four teams had a chance to qualify for the semi-finals heading in to the final day of the pool stages. The winners from the games between South Korea and Chinese Taipei, and China and Thailand would finish as runner-up in their respective pools and therefore qualify for the semi-finals.
South Korea bounced back from their defeat against Japan with a solid win over Chinese Taipei. Three players made double figures, Dong Hyeon Gim (24 points), Seung Hyun Cho (12 points) and Dong Gil Yang (11 points), assisting them to a 83-46 victory. Chun-Nan Chi led the scoring for Chinese Taipei with 11 points.
In a game that was close throughout, China scored more efficiently from the field as Thailand were edged out, 62-58 in an exciting finish. Thailand’s captain Aekkasit Jumjarean led all scorers with 29 points, followed by China’s Yinhai Lin with 19 points.
Japan were unbeaten as they topped pool A with a 95-39 win over Malaysia, whilst Iraq got their first win of the tournament, 97-27 over Indonesia, to finish fourth in pool B.
