The House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland hosted the first IWBF Executive Council board meeting of 2019, this weekend (Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April 2019).

This was the first time the newly formed board had met since the board elections took place at IWBF’s World Congress last August in Hamburg.

Chaired by IWBF President Ulf Mehrens, the two-day meeting saw the approval of the Official 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball Rules, a number of amended regulations, and the approval of the proposed members for the Competition, Classification, CLME and Technical Commissions.

The Executive Council also discussed a variety of topics including the development of the competition pathway for the 3×3 discipline of the sport.

FIBA’s Secretary General, Andreas Zagklis, also joined the meeting and used the opportunity to meet the members of the IWBF board and express his thoughts on the continued co-operation of the two organisations.

Zagklis said, “It was a pleasure to welcome the IWBF Executive Council back to the House of Basketball, which is not only our home but theirs as well.

“There are great opportunities to continue to increase the collaboration and build relationships between our member organisations, now also around the 3×3 discipline.

“FIBA’s goal is to make basketball the most popular sport in the world and increase the amount of people bouncing the ball. Whether that is in a chair or standing, it is the same game.

“There is a lot of room for great synergies and we will continue to work together on projects across the world to realise our shared ambitions.”
