Wheelchair Basketball South Africa has been awarded the rights to host the 2020 Afro Paralympic Qualifiers in Johannesburg, next year.

The 2020 Afro Paralympic Qualifiers will now act as IWBF Africa’s Zone qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games to replace the Africa Para Games which were cancelled last month.

The decision was made by the IWBF Executive Council at their meeting in Pattaya, Thailand on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th December, following three bids from interested parties to host the qualification tournament.

The dates of the tournament to be held in Johannesburg are 4th to 14th of March 2020.

Wheelchair Basketball South Africa’s President, Craig Moorgas, said:

“We are delighted to be able to have stepped in and host the Africa Zone’s qualification tournament at such short notice. We have a long legacy of running world class events and we hope to be able to showcase this in Johannesburg again next year.”

The zone has one men’s and one women’s spot available at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
