IWBF join the wheelchair basketball community and the world of para-sport in mourning the passing of Alfredo Marson. Marson founded Italy’s Paralympic Sports Club Briantea84 38 years ago with the aim to spread the values of inclusion through sport.

IWBF Secretary General, Norbert Kucera, said:

“Alfredo was a trailblazer for wheelchair basketball not only in Italy but in Europe and across the World. Leading Briantea84, he brought passion and professionalism to wheelchair basketball which transpired to the wider community as the club hosted numerous club and international competitions, including the U22 European Championships in 21, driving the standards of European Competitions to the next level.

“Alfredo was always emotionally engaged within the sport, showing enormous empathy and affection. His passing is a huge loss for wheelchair basketball. Our thoughts go out to all his family, friends and those at Briantea84.”
