IWBF join the Paralympic Sport Community in mourning the passing of the President of the Paralympic Committee of Thailand, Nick Bhirombhakdi.
Mr Bhirombhakdi served as the chairman of the Paralympic Sports Committee of Thailand since 2009 and worked closely with associations for disabled sports in Thailand including the Sports Association for Wheelchair Basketball in Thailand.
IWBF Asia Oceania Secretary General, Don Perriman, said:
“Our thoughts are with the para-sport community in Thailand, Mr Bhirombhakdi was not only a leader and sponsor for wheelchair basketball but a real friend and champion of the sport. He regularly supported and attended international wheelchair basketball competitions in Thailand.
“On behalf of IWBF, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and everyone closest to him in these difficult times.”
A moment of silence was paid in tribute to Mr Bhirombhakdi ahead of Thailand Under 23 wheelchair basketball team’s game at the IWBF U23 World Championship currently taking place in Phuket, Thailand.
