The 2024 IWBF America’s Men’s South America Wheelchair Basketball Championship concluded with Colombia winning gold on home ground at Bogotá’s Coliseo Cayetano Cañizares. The tournament, held from October 29 to November 3, featured six South American teams—Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Chile, and Peru—competing for both a championship title and qualification for the 2025 IWBF Americas Cup.

In the end, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela earned their place in next year’s World Championship qualifier.

The week-long event saw intense competition from start to finish. Argentina established themselves early as strong contenders with a critical 70-67 win against Colombia and a 58-46 victory over Brazil. Colombia, backed by a supportive home crowd, performed well with their only loss coming in the preliminary game against Argentina. Venezuela secured two important victories in the group stage, defeating Peru 67-28 and Chile 63-37, to earn a spot in the 3rd-4th place game and clinch the final qualification position. Whilst Chile edged out Peru 34-26 in their final preliminary game, setting up a return clash for fifth place, where they triumphed again, 43-23.

In the championship game, Colombia faced Argentina once more, this time taking command to secure a 59-49 victory and claim the gold medal. Argentina took home silver, while Brazil completed the podium with a decisive 77-53 win over Venezuela in the bronze medal game.

This year’s Men’s South America Championship showcased the depth of talent across the region. Now, with qualification secured, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela will focus on preparing for the Americas Cup, where they will join other top teams from the region in pursuit of qualification for Ottawa 2026 World Championship.
