The IWBF Players’ Commission was established to provide international wheelchair basketball players with a unified and structured voice within the governance of the sport. Representing athletes at the highest level of decision-making, the Commission ensures that player perspectives are embedded across key areas of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF).
The Commission is composed of eight athletes, with equal representation across the four IWBF Zones and gender balance, ensuring diverse and global athlete input. Its origins stem from the IWBF Athlete Steering Committee, which laid the foundation for a more formal and permanent structure dedicated to athlete representation.
Following its initial formation as a provisional body, the Players’ Commission was formally recognised as a permanent commission within the IWBF Statutes at the 2023 IWBF World Congress. This milestone strengthened the role of athletes within the federation, with the Chair of the Commission holding a voting position on the IWBF Executive Council.
The current Players’ Commission includes representatives from across the global game, reflecting a wide range of experiences at the elite level. The Commission continues to meet regularly, providing input on matters including competition structures, classification, athlete welfare, and the overall development of wheelchair basketball worldwide.
Following the most recent election cycle, the IWBF Players’ Commission for the 2026–2028 term is composed of the following members:
Newly Elected Representatives
Continuing Members
The Chair and Vice Chair of the Commission are elected internally by its members.
As part of its governance cycle, the Commission operates on a staggered election system to ensure continuity and fresh athlete representation. The most recent election cycle has contributed to the ongoing evolution of the group, reinforcing its role as a key voice within IWBF.
The Players’ Commission remains committed to strengthening athlete engagement and ensuring that players have a direct channel to contribute to the future of the sport.
