The IWBF Men’s U23 World Championship has been relocated and rescheduled to take place in Phuket, Thailand between 7 September – 16 September 2022
The decision to reschedule the Championship, which was due to be held in Chiba, Japan, between 27 May – 4 June 2022, was made by IWBF in conjunction with the Japanese Wheelchair Basketball Federation.
The Championship, which showcases elite junior male players of the sport, was originally scheduled for 2021 but had to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
The IWBF Men’s U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship is an international competition showcasing the best young male wheelchair basketball players from around the world. Zonal qualification tournaments are held in each of the four IWBF Zones (Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia Oceania) to determine the countries that qualify.
The event, held every four years, made its debut in 1997 in Toronto, Canada, and continues to be a platform for the next generation of elite athletes in the sport.
12 Teams will compete in the 2021 IWBF Men’s U23 World Championship – Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, USA.
Group A: Brazil, Canada, France, Japan, Spain and Turkey
Group B: Australia, Germany, Israel, South Africa, Thailand and the United States
