The group draw for the Wheelchair Basketball competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is scheduled to take place on Friday 14 June 2024.

This event, hosted by Fédération Française Handisport at the historic Stade Charléty in tandem with the Paris Handisport Open, will take place at 10:00am (CEST) and can be watched live on the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) YouTube channel.

The draw will determine the groups for the qualified teams, setting the stage for intense competition in the Men’s and Women’s tournaments at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Pairings

The draw will determine the groupings for the qualified teams, setting the stage for fierce competition in both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments. Here’s a closer look at the pairings and how the draw process works.

WOMEN’S PAIRINGS:

Pairing 1: Netherlands (NED) – Great Britain (GBR)
Pairing 2: China (CHN) – Japan (JPN)
Pairing 3: United States (USA) – Canada (CAN)
Pairing 4: Spain (ESP) – Germany (GER)

MEN’S PAIRINGS:

Pairing 1: United States (USA) – Canada (CAN)
Pairing 2: Great Britain (GBR) – Spain (ESP)
Pairing 3: Netherlands (NED) – Germany (GER)
Pairing 4: Australia (AUS) – France (FRA)

The rationale behind these pairings is based on rankings within their respective zones. For the men’s competition, France, being the lowest-ranked team in their zone, is paired with Australia, the only team from their zone.

Draw Process

The draw is designed to ensure fairness and balance in the competition. The process involves seeding to guarantee a fair distribution of teams from the same zones. Here’s how it works:

Pairing Distribution: The teams are paired based on their rankings and zones.

Group Allocation: The first country drawn from each pairing will be placed into Group A, while the second will automatically go into Group B.

Host Privilege: As the host nation, France will have the privilege to choose which pool they would like to compete in.
