The full competition schedule for the 2022 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships has been released.

The IWBF World Championships is the showcase event for wheelchair basketball and is the largest international wheelchair basketball competition with 28 of the best men’s and women’s national teams from across the globe set to compete in Dubai, UAE between the 9 June – 20 June 2023.

The opening day (Friday 9 June) will see the men’s competition get underway with hosts the United Arab Emirates taking on Italy in the first game following the Opening Ceremony.

The men’s group games will take place over the next five days to determine the standings in the four groups and the match-ups for the last 16, with the winners of those games advancing to the quarter-finals on Friday 16 June.

The women’s competition begins on the second day of the Championships (Saturday 10 June). The 12 teams, drawn into two groups, will play group games until Friday 16 June to determine the eight (top four in each pool) progressing to the quarter-finals, which will take place on Saturday 17 June.

The semi-finals of both competitions will be played back-to-back on Super Sunday (Sunday 18 June), with the medal games for both the men’s and women’s competitions bringing the Championships to its conclusion on Tuesday 20 June.

IWBF Chair of the Competition Commission, Charlie Bethel, said:

“The schedule announcement is an exciting point for the players, teams and fans all around the world on the road to the World Championships as they prepare for their pathway through the competition. We are looking forward to an exciting twelve days of competition that will showcase the sport to its fullest.”
