An intensive day of wheelchair basketball took place on the second day at the European Championships Division C.
In Group A, Belgium were first on court making an immediate impression against Portugal, taking a convincing win, 72-28, thanks to a game high of 20 points from Bart Nulens and a double double of 15 points and 10 rebounds from Lorenzo Boterberg. Belgium carried their fine form in to their second game of the day against Greece, this time with Yono Van Rompaey leading the scoring with 19 points, assisting them to a 78-27 victory. The two wins for the Belgium team guaranteed them top spot in Group A.
Group B matches saw Ireland bounce back from their opening defeat against the hosts to secure wins over Hungary, 81-16 and Serbia, 61-43 aided by the experience and speed of Matthew Rollston, averaging 16 points a game so far for the Irish. The two wins confirmed the Irish a crossover spot alongside Czech Republic, who defeated Serbia 80-61, followed by Hungary 87-34, to remain undefeated and round off the matches on day two of the Championships. The Czech forward Adam Erben again making his presence felt in both games with 35 points and 44 points.
Tomorrow morning will see four teams looking for their first wins of the tournament. Greece will play Portugal with the winner securing second place in Group A, whilst in Group B Serbia will play Hungary with both looking to avoid finishing bottom of the group.
