China won the gold medal in the women’s wheelchair basketball competition at the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games, with victory over Japan.
China took control of the game early on pushing out to a 10-2 lead, but a change from the Japanese bench saw them increase their intensity and hit back to trail by just two points. It was a three-pointer by Suiling Lin that gave China a five-point lead at the end of the first, 13-8.
Japan continued to chase the game in the second quarter, but it was China who were more efficient from the floor and pushed the lead out to 12 points, 29-17, by half-time.
The momentum continued with China in the second half as Japan could not contain the strong Chinese offense, as they won the third and fourth quarters with scores of 20-14 and 16-4, to claim gold for the second consecutive time, 65-35.
China’s captain Suiling Lin led her team with a double-double of 26 points and 11 assists, ably supported by Guidi Lyu (19 points) and Xuemei Zhang (14 points).
Mari Amimoto and Chihiro Kitada top-scored for Japan with 13 points and 10 points respectively.
