An eventful opening day in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia yesterday at the 2022 Africa World Championships Qualifiers, started with the hosts the Ethiopian Wheelchair Basketball Federation, with the support of the Ministry of Sport, opening the tournament and welcoming the teams with cultural dance and activities which entertained approximately 400 spectators. The event was supported by various dignitaries from across the state.
It was then Ethiopia who put on an impressive display on their international debut, as they pushed South Africa, 26-30, in the women's competition.
In the men's competition, Algeria had to forfeit their first game against South Africa, 20-0, due to a number of COVID positive cases within their team. The second men's game between Ethiopia and Egypt of the day was postponed following a power failure at 1.36mins in the 1Q. Game to resume at 11:00 on (today) 24 January 2022.
The Championships is the zonal qualification tournament for the 2022 World Championships, which takes place in November this year.
