Argentina will host Brazil, Chile and the USA at the America’s U23 qualification tournament for the U23 World Championships. Two out of the four teams will win the right to go to the U23 Men’s World Championships in Toronto in June.

The tournament organised by FABA (Argentine Federation of Basketball Adapted) in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports for the Nation under the Secretary of Sports for the government of the city of Buenos Aires; Enard National High Performance Sports; with the endorsement of the COPAR (Comité Paralímpico Argentino) and IWBF (International Wheelchair Basketball Federation)

The USA is the pre-tournament favourite with many of their players coming out of the University programme and a long history of strong U23 teams. USA have reached the Final in three of the last five U23 World Championships, having won in 2005 and 2009, claiming a bronze medal in 2001, and did not participate in 2013.

Both Brazil and Argentina are hoping that youth will win the day, with teams consisting of players predominantly under 21. However both countries have experience at this level but for Chile it will be their first time to present a team at the U23 tournament.

The tournament will be run and officiated by the following technical committee; Roberto Sanchez (Argentina) will be the head classifier, he will be joined by Patrica Reis (Brazil) and Eduardo De Garay from Mexico. Jorge Bestilleiro (Argentina) will be the referee supervisor, supervising the following referees: Mati Quintana (Argentina), Cristain Collombatti (Argentina), Gustavo Mathias (Brazil), Enzo Fernandez (Chile), Pedro Vasquez (Chile) and Herbert Gonzales (Uruguay).

Technical Delegate will be Maureen Orchard (Canada).

The tournament will run as a double round robin at the Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo starting on Monday 23rd January.
