The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) has become one of the early adopters of the new .basketball digital identity, with its own new domain name wheelchair.basketball.

Ulf Mehrens, President of IWBF, said, “We are thrilled to be amongst the innovators in claiming our new .basketball domain.

“The wheelchair.basketball domain name not only strengthens the sport’s brand but also reinforces our We Are Wheelchair Basketball strapline. Embracing .basketball unifies wheelchair basketball as the part of the global basketball community.”

The adoption and use of the .basketball name is rapidly occurring in all segments of the basketball family.

FIBA led the way, changing its digital identity to fiba.basketball and also establishing .basketball domain names for its premier events.

Since the project was launched on 15th June, FIBA has received a tremendous response with a wide variety of the game's stakeholders excitedly moving to embrace the .basketball digital identity including IWBF.

FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member Patrick Baumann said, "The .basketball domain is ideal because it is clear, specific, has a global scale and reach and defines the sport. Ensuring that .basketball is kept within the sport for the benefit of the global basketball community is fully in line with one of FIBA's missions - that of bringing people together and uniting the community."

FIBA has been working with its partner, Roar.basketball, to make available priority access to all 213 of its National Federations, their respective members (leagues, clubs, players, etc.) as well as other key stakeholders of the basketball community.
