During the 2024 Asia Oceania Congress, held in conjunction with the 2024 IWBF Asia Oceania Championships in Bangkok, the election of a new Executive Committee for the 2024- 2028 term took place.
Shafi Alhajeri from Kuwait assumed the position of President after running unopposed and securing the role by acclamation, replacing his fellow Kuwaiti, Saad Alazmaa.
Xue Liang from China was elected as the Vice-President of East Asia, with East Asian countries casting their votes in his favor. In a three-way competition, Mohammad Alkhazaleh from Jordan emerged as the Vice-President of West Asia, reflecting a competitive electoral process within the West Asian countries.
Several familiar faces retained their positions on the Executive Committee, running unopposed and being re-elected by acclamation. Ang Kean Koo from Malaysia will continue as the Vice-President of South East Asia, Hourieh Baradaran from Iran as the Vice-President of Central & South Asia, Phatt Krissana from Thailand as the Treasurer, Toufic Allouche from Lebanon as the Classification Officer, and Matthew Wells from Australia as the Technical Officer.
Alison Mosely from Australia, a dual Paralympic silver medalist with the Australian Gliders, an assistant in the Australian women's program, and coach at the IWBF Asia Oceania's most recent development camp, assumed the role of Vice-President of Oceania, succeeding Lisa Chaffey.
Don Perriman, also from Australia, retained his position as the Secretary General of Asia Oceania after being reappointed during the Executive Council meeting following the congress.
Additionally, the Congress approved the inclusion of a Players Commission representative position. Hiroaki Kozai and Ella Sabljak from the IWBF Player Commission will represent the players' interests in future Executive Committee meetings.
The outcome of the 2024 Asia Oceania Congress establishes a new IWBF Asia Oceania Executive Committee, emphasizing continuity and leadership stability in the realm of wheelchair basketball development in the region.
