The countdown is nearly over as the 2024 IWBF America’s Men’s South America Wheelchair Basketball Championship gets ready to launch in Bogotá, Colombia, from 29 October to 3 November. Six national teams—Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela—will compete fiercely for one of the four available spots in the 2025 IWBF Americas Cup. The Coliseo Cayetano Cañizares, a venue that previously hosted wheelchair basketball during the 2023 Youth Parapan American Games, will provide the backdrop for this high-stakes tournament.

The championship brings together the best of South American male wheelchair basketballers in what promises to be a thrilling display of talent and determination. Each team will compete in five preliminary games, with the top two teams advancing to the gold medal match and the 3rd and 4th place teams contesting the bronze. The remaining two teams will battle it out for the 5-6th final standings.

Luis Ninco, President of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in Bogotá, expressed his excitement about hosting the tournament:

“In Bogotá, we are waiting for all teams with open arms, hosting them as they are in their home during this important competition in our region.”

IWBF Americas President Steve Bach also shared his enthusiasm for the event:

“The IWBF America is honored and excited to collaborate with the Federación Colombiana de BSR in presenting the 2024 edition of the Men’s South America Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Bogotá. We look forward to the many quality teams engaging at the highest level this sport has to offer, all in pursuit of a top-four placing to qualify for the 2025 Americas Cup. Our sincere thanks to Luis Ninco, the Local Organizing Committee, and the many enthusiastic volunteers that I know will provide a tremendous platform for great competition, fine camaraderie, and life-long memories.”

The tournament will not only be an opportunity for these teams to showcase their skills but also a chance for fans across the globe to watch the action unfold live.
