It is all to play for in the two final games of the women’s competition at the 2022 IWBF Asia Oceania Championships in Phuket, Thailand.

Australia and Japan have set up a deciding match as to whom gets crowned Zone Champion. Australia currently sits top of the pool table (5-0) by one point over Japan (4-1), thanks to a 63-47 win over their rivals in the matchup earlier in the tournament. To knock Australia off the top spot, Japan needs a 17-point win.

The top three women’s teams from the Zone qualification tournament qualify for the 2022 IWBF World Championships in Dubai, which makes the game between hosts Thailand and Iran even more significant as they fight it out for third place.

Iran goes into the game as the favourite to claim the final spot, holding a one-point advantage in the standings plus a previous win of 55-40 against the Thai team, which means the host would need to win by 16 points or more to move above the Iranian team and claim the last ticket to Dubai.

The women’s competition format has been played as a double round-robin where the four teams all face each other twice and the standings determine the final placings.
