The Australia Gliders are top of the table at the midway stage of the women’s competition at the 2022 Asia Oceania Championships after winning all three of their games so far.

Following comfortable wins over Thailand (83-34) and Iran (61-30) on day 2 and day 3 of the tournament, Australia faced their well-known counterparts Japan in a table topper decider on day 4. Japan also had two victories under their belt against Thailand (77-28) and Iran (66-34).

A huge double double from Amber Merritt, 40 points and 15 rebounds, assisted Australia to beat Japan, 63-47, securing the top spot.

Fighting it out for third or fourth place in the table, Iran defeated hosts Thailand, 55-40, both looking to secure the Zone’s last spot at the 2022 World Championships later this year.

The women’s teams will all play each other once more in the double round-robin format to determine the final standings and the top three qualifiers for the 2022 World Championships.
