In the final match at the 2024 IWBF Asia Oceania Championships, China emerged victorious, securing both the gold medal and a direct qualification to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Facing a formidable opponent in Japan, the Chinese team had to overcome a spirited challenge, with Japan leading by one point at halftime (21-22). However, China demonstrated composure and dominance in the second half, outscoring Japan 24-6 to seal a 54-35 triumph. This victory maintained China's undefeated streak throughout the tournament.
China's captain Suiling Lin expressed her joy and pride in qualifying for the Paris 2024, saying:
"I am very happy to have secured qualification for the Paris Paralympics. Through hard work and the battles fought with my teammates, I am ver happy that the results have come to fruition. The journey, from the early matches to facing Thailand and reaching the finals, has been an incredible honor. Despite the perception that these games were only against Australia and Japan, our team never fully relaxed.
"We had previously faced the Japanese team at the Hangzhou Asian Games, understanding their formidable skills. However, we never let our guard down because the Japanese team is exceptionally strong and should never be underestimated. The entire team remained cautious throughout this period – from training sessions to competitive matches – and everyone felt the intensity of the competition."
Bronze Medal Game: Australia vs Thailand
In the bronze medal match, Australia faced a resilient Thailand team, ultimately prevailing with a 47-41 victory. Both teams, Australia and Thailand, now join second-place Japan to have another chance to vie for a Paris spot at the 2024 IWBF Women's Repechage in April.
