FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis was joined by Spanish Basketball Federation President Jorge Garbajosa at a visit to the 2021 Wheelchair Basketball European Championships for Men and Women in Madrid, Spain, which took place earlier this month (4 – 12 December 2021).
Organisers of the Championships, IWBF Europe and the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Physically Disabled (FEDDF), hosted both representatives from FIBA and the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Marques de Samaranch in Madrid, as they enjoyed two games of wheelchair basketball – a men’s quarter-final game between Spain and Italy, as well as a women’s pool game between Spain and current Paralympic champions the Netherlands.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said:
"It was great to be at the IWBF European Championships in Madrid and watch first-hand such dynamic elite-level wheelchair basketball and take in all the on-court action. FIBA has maintained a strong and fruitful relationship with the IWBF over the years and they are an integral member of the FIBA family. I look forward to continuing this relationship and seeing them on court again soon."
The 2021 European Championships was the zonal qualification tournament, with five men’s and four women’s spots available, for the 2022 World Championships set to take place in Dubai next year.
