The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) recently enjoyed a successful meeting of their Executive Council at FIBA's headquarters in Mies.
The gathering at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball was attended by FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, now a full voting member of the IWBF Executive Council, as both organizations continue to work tirelessly on a shared goal of growing and developing basketball around the world.
This was also underlined by a meeting agenda that was very much shaped around the IWBF's direction for the upcoming years, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation and strategic growth.
Other key topics covered included preparation for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and finalization of the organization for the IWBF Repechage tournaments. There was also an emphasis on further growth of 3x3 as a vehicle to expand wheelchair basketball, as well as fruitful discussion on strategic action planning and engagement with key stakeholders.
Reflecting on the meeting, IWBF President Ulf Mehrens stated:
"We remain grateful to FIBA for their continued support as our partnership deepens and evolves. The IWBF is honored to call the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball our home, and we look forward to contributing to making basketball the most popular sport in the world.
"As we embark on a new term for our Executive Council, it was a pleasure to welcome both the new faces and familiar ones, in-person for the first time during this term.
He continued:
"Together, we are focused on driving wheelchair basketball forward and strategically implementing our goals and direction. This includes an emphasis on 3x3 in our commitment to offer new opportunities for growth and development in the sport."
Meanwhile, FIBA Secretary General, Andreas Zagklis reflected:
