IWBF President, Ulf Mehrens, said:

“The 2023 Women’s U25 World Championship will be the fourth of its kind and for it to be the largest is very encouraging especially given that COVID pandemic impacted a lot of the wheelchair basketball programmes across the world.

“Our focus is to offer a clear pathway to support the development of women playing our sport which includes an elite junior platform to provide competitive opportunities. To see the growth of the women’s game across our Zones is really inspiring.”

The Sport Association for Wheelchair Basketball Thai (SAWBT) will host the event in Bangkok, Thailand. SAWBT have a successful track record of hosting international competitions which include the last U25 World Championship in Suphanburi, the 2021 U23 World Championship in Phuket last year, and several Asia Oceania Championships.

Taking place every four years, this will be the fourth edition of the U25 World Championship with the USA the reigning champions from 2019.
