Schedule Confirmed for Inaugural IWBF 3x3 Open World Championship in South Africa

The official schedule for the inaugural IWBF 3x3 Open World Championships has been released. The event will take place from 1–3 August 2025 at the Superbowl Sun Arena in Sun City, South Africa.

This landmark tournament will welcome 23 teams from around the world across the men’s and women’s competitions, showcasing the fast-paced, dynamic format of 3x3 wheelchair basketball on the international stage.

Men’s Tournament – Three Groups of Five

Following the withdrawal of Libya, the men’s competition has 15 teams, split into three groups of five. Each team will face off in round-robin group play before the top teams progress to the knockout rounds.

Pool A

Great Britain, Poland, Croatia, Malaysia, Egypt

Pool B

Portugal, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Kenya, Canada

Pool C

Spain, Austria, Iran, Slovenia, South Africa

Women’s Tournament – Two Groups of Four

The women’s competition will see eight teams divided into two groups of four, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semi-finals.

Pool A

South Africa, Australia, Great Britain, Switzerland

Pool B

Iran, Kenya, Spain, Canada

Action Begins 1 August

Competition tips off on Friday 1 August, with group games continuing throughout the weekend and culminating in the finals on Sunday 3 August. All matches will take place in the iconic Superbowl venue, with free entry for spectators and live streaming available on the IWBF YouTube channel.
